How often should I shampoo my hair after a colour service?
To retain those natural oils that help condition your colour-treated hair, shampoo just two or three times per week. To prevent water from washing away your vibrant colour, use a colour-protect shampoo, conditioner and mask, especially in the case of dry, frizzy and thick hair. We’d recommend you use the De Fabulous Reviver shampoo, conditioner and mask or the Schwarzkopf Colour Freeze shampoo, conditioner and mask. For extra nourishment and shine, we’d also recommend you use Açai Oil.
Does hair colour damage your hair?
Hair colour under the professional guidance at Lakme Salon does not cause damage to the hair, so you need not worry. Also, before the hair colour, a thorough consultation with the hair expert at the salon is imperative. Practicing hair-friendly techniques like limiting heat styling and conditioning the hair can help minimize damage whenever possible. Dyeing your hair closer to its natural colour may also limit time exposure to hair dyes and help minimize damage. Professional range of shampoo and conditioner would help in keeping the hair colour for a longer time, specially colour-protect products, as they’d help to maintain the natural texture and retain the colour in the hair.
What to avoid post hair colour?
a. Shampooing the day after you colour your hair is a complete no-no, avoid shampooing the hair for at least 48 hours after your colour -- let the colour settle in your hair.
b. Hot styling tools can fade out the colour if used directly on the hair without a heat protectant, so a leave-in product is a must. We’d recommend using Opuntia Oil, which is heat protectant and protects your hair from UV filters.
c. Don't wash your freshly coloured hair too often. Rinsing with hot water could strip the colour, so opt for lukewarm or cold water to wash your hair. Using a conditioner on colour-treated hair would help avoid any dryness or frizzy ends.
d. Roughly drying your hair with a towel can cause frizz. After washing, dry the hair in low speed with a dryer to maintain the shape and softness of the hair.
e. Overusing your curling iron, flat iron or blow-dryer should be avoided on freshly coloured hair. Instead maintain the temperature from 160-170 degree and do not forget to use a leave in or a heat-protectant.
How do I keep my hair colour looking vibrant and beautiful, and prevent it from fading?
Using colour-protectant shampoos that are sulphate- and paraben-free. These shampoos help maintain the natural health of the hair and make your colour look beautiful and vibrant. We would suggest that you use Moroccanoil Smooth shampoo, as it is a hydrating shampoo that gives you more manageable, healthy-looking smooth hair. When used with Moroccanoil Smoothing conditioner, results can last up to 72 hours.
Can I oil my hair after colouring?
Yes, you can, but we’d recommend not oiling it immediately after you’ve coloured your hair. A gap of 15 days is recommended after your colouring process. Coconut oil can benefit all hair types - especially dry, damaged and colour-treated hair. The chemicals present in hair dye can make your tresses dry and rough, but coconut oil counteracts these effects. We would recommend you use Naturica Opuntia Oil Treatment with Opuntia Extract for all hair types. This is an ultra-nourishing, protective, soothing treatment that softens and regenerates the hair.
How to maintain hair health post colouring?
Wash your hair less frequently. The more you wash, the quicker your colour will fade. Pick the right shampoo, do not forget to condition your tresses. Heat protection plays a crucial part in your post-colour haircare; make time for masks; and air dry your hair as much as possible -- major heat styles can damage the natural texture of the hair. Revitalize your hair by opting for a hair spa at Lakme Salon once in 15 days to help maintain the texture and tonal vibrancy of the hair.
Can I blow dry/straighten my coloured hair?
Dyed hair is more susceptible to damage, so avoid using blow dryers, curling irons or straightening irons as much as possible. Whenever you can, let your colour-treated hair dry naturally. If you are going to use heat, after using your colour-protecting shampoo and conditioner, apply a heat-protecting styling product.
