Post-Workout Hair Care Tips

Fight sweaty hair even while you sweat it out with these expert tips

If you’re someone who works out regularly, firstly, we’re so proud of you. But we also know you could use some help in the post-workout hair care department. Working out regularly leaves your scalp sweaty and your strands oily. Does this mean you should ditch your workout? Absolutely not! We have some easy hair care tips and hacks, courtesy our experts, Aleisha Keswani, Head of Education, TIGI Copyright Care and Audrey Dsouza, Head of Styling, TIGI Bed Head, that will keep those locks fresh and healthy, even as you sweat it out.

Pre-Workout Prep

Use a hairband made of cloth or any other sweat-absorbent fabric while working out to avoid the hairline becoming too frizzy.

Don’t tie your hair up too tightly, as this can lead to unnecessary hair fall and damage. Instead tie it up in a loose bun or braid.

Use dry shampoo before working out as this can help absorb any sweat during workout. We recommend the TIGI Bed Head Oh Bee Hive dry shampoo, as it absorbs the dirt and sweat from the scalp and keeps your hair fresh for another day.

Post-Workout Shampoo

As tempting as it may be, avoid washing your hair with shampoo every day -- this is a sure-shot way to strip your hair and scalp of its natural oils. Instead shampoo your hair two to three times a week, alternating between a clarifying and a moisturising shampoo.

The TIGI Bed Head Level 2 Recovery Shampoo is a good choice after you’ve worked out, as it cleans your scalp, hydrates and maintains the hair’s moisture without weighing it down, calms frizz, and leave your mane feeling and looking smooth.

If you have coloured hair, opt for a colour-protect shampoo like the lightweight and sulphate-free TIGI Copyright Custom Colour Shampoo.

Post-Workout Conditioner

If you do feel excessively sweaty and want to wash your hair after every workout, rinse it with water only and use a conditioner to lock in the moisture from your mid to end lengths. Depending on the shampoo you use for your hair type and concern, you can opt for the TIGI Bed Head Level 2 Recovery Conditioner or the TIGI Copyright Care Colour Conditioner (if you’ve coloured your locks).

As tempting as it may be, avoid washing your hair with shampoo every day -- this is a sure-shot way to strip your hair and scalp of its natural oils. Instead shampoo your hair two to three times a week, alternating between a clarifying and a moisturising shampoo.

You can also consider using a leave-in conditioner to control the frizz before your next hair wash. The TIGI Bedhead Control Freak Serum is a leave-in conditioner and frizz controller, which also acts as a thermal protectant, fights humidity and leaves the hair smooth and silky, with a glossy finish. It’s also a great product if you’re looking to style your hair post a workout.
